Back cover copy: Princess Neve doesn’t regret having her stepmother, the Queen, sew her lips shut. In fact, she is glad to be spared from court by having everyone believe she is unfit to rule. To Neve, the silencing has only cost her the chance to be loved. She doesn’t realize it has also left her under her stepmother’s control.
When rebels ambush the royal ball, Neve’s dormant magic awakens. She looks to the striking Cormac—her stepmother’s personal guard—for help. Against his orders, he introduces Neve to a secret witch coven that will train her before anyone learns she’s a witch. As Neve's bond with Cormac deepens, so does her desire to convince her stepmother to unsew her lips. Then perhaps Cormac will be able to love her.
When the coven reveals that her stepmother killed her father, Neve is fueled by the need to escape the Queen’s control. She aligns herself with the coven’s rebellion against her stepmother. Convincing her to unsew her lips is no longer enough. To truly be free, Neve needs to take back her kingdom.
Years of blind obedience to her stepmother have left Neve unprepared to lead the coven. She has never strategized a battle or inspired her allies, and she must find her voice before her stepmother’s soldiers scour the kingdom and find them. Neve needs to hone her magic and take charge of the coven. If she fails, her lips will remain stitched—keeping her from being able to love Cormac, and her kingdom will be lost to her stepmother’s clutches.
